What You Should Know About Dumpster Usage

What You Should Know About Dumpster Usage

Renting a dumpster can be a very challenging task.  Not knowing the various sizes of dumpsters and typical usage needs is a receipt for an expensive rental project.  Under-estimating the quantity of waste material for a small project can quickly result in higher dumpster cost.  The use of dumpsters can be quickly broken down into two categories – Permanent and Temporary.

Temporary Dumpsters

Temporary roll-off dumpsters typically range in sizes from 10 yard dumpsters, 15 yard dumpsters, 20 yard dumpsters, 30 yard dumpsters, 35 yard dumpsters and 40 yard dumpsters. This type of dumpster rental is often referred to in the industry as “large container service” because of the relatively large size of the containers used. Roll-off dumpsters are so named because they actually roll off the back of the truck. You will typically see these dumpsters on construction sites, roofing jobs, general clean-outs of a home or business, kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling or other home remodeling project. Because they are large dumpsters and because the trucks can maneuver on most job sites they are often the best dumpsters for temporary construction usage. Construction dumpsters also take into account the type of solid waste material being loaded into the container.

General Waste – is the most common type of waste material for the construction dumpster. This type of waste is also known as Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).

Green Waste – waste material of this type is typical green foliage, stump, and brush material. This type of waste is often grinded and used as mulch or compost.

Construction & Demolition (C/D) – this type of material includes lumber, sheet-rock, stucco, and other related construction material.

Concrete – this type of material can be crushed and reused for filler material. This material can be placed into smaller dumpsters. 10 yard dumpsters referred as a low-boy containers are standard types of dumpster for this material.

Cardboard or Metals can also be managed with large dumpster rentals.

Permanent Dumpsters

Permanent dumpsters come in 3, 4, 6, or 8 yard measurements and are uncommon for large projects, like construction, as the trucks that transport these models are not designed to handle extreme weight or uneven terrain. The garbage containers are picked up by either front load trucks or rear load trucks depending on the area available for maneuvering. The smaller dumpsters, up to the 4 yard dumpsters, can be outfitted with wheels so the containers can be rolled out for servicing. Smaller containers and permanent dumpsters are often found outside of businesses and strip malls.  Dumpster service is usually on a weekly basis anywhere from once per week to seven days per week. Sizes depend on need and are part of the normal municipal waste collection. Compactors are special dumpsters that crush debris or cardboard to allow maximum collection space. This dumpster is attached to a large motorized compaction unit which compresses the waste into the dumpster rental. These are fully enclosed dumpsters with the only access through the compaction unit itself; unlike the open top dumpster rentals where waste can be thrown over the side and into the box.

Types of Public Waste Bin

Types of Public Waste Bin

We probably walk past dozens each day and not give them a second thought but the public waste bin is a crucial part of ensuring we are not wading down the high street knee-deep in discarded rubbish.

But unlike internal waste bins for our homes and offices, the public litter bin has to cope with higher demands and risks that are not a consideration external bins.

Public bins have to have a larger capacity than those we use in our homes. While we may have half-a-dozen people at home throwing rubbish and litter in it, a public waste bin will have hundreds and perhaps thousands.

They also have to be sturdy. Even the common-or-garden plastic dustbin or trash can would not last too long in a public environment. Many of the public waste receptacles are manufactured from tough polymers that are not only resistant to the rigours of the weather but can they are often fire proof, an important consideration with something that may sit on a high street amongst the general public

Sadly, bins in outdoor locations have to be resistant to vandals and thieves too. For this reason many are wall mounted of bolted to the floor. Some public bins even have a locking mechanism to prevent people from emptying the contents on the floor.

They also have to come in numerous designs for the types of locations they may be placed in and the types of waste they are likely to encounter. Hospital bins, wall mounted ashtrays, bins for schools, high streets, and parks all require different designs.

Outdoor bins need also to be plentiful. If there are not enough of them then littering will soon become a problem. Many people will use bins if they are there, but if not, they may be inclined to dispose of there rubbish on the pavement.

And the right location is just as important. Along busy while they may be unsightly, they still need to be placed along thoroughfares and be clearly visible. A litter bin tucked around the corner or hidden behind a building will be useless. They need to clearly visible and accessible otherwise they just won’t get used.

History of the Dustbin

History of the Dustbin

Most of us have one and probably have done for most of our lives but very few of us give the humble dustbin much thought. But in fact the dustbin has gone through dramatic changes which have coincided with changes that our society has been through over the last hundred years of so.

Whether you call it a dustbins, rubbish bin, garbage can or wheelie bin, the changes to our main refuse collection bin have been dramatic and represent the changing way we live ourlives.

Dustbins have only been around since the last 150 years or so. Before that time there was little need for dustbins or waste bins as most waste people discarded were ash (from fires), wood, bones, body waste and vegetable matter which more-often-than-not was just burned in the fireplace.

However, when the industrial revolution happened and more and consumable items were being purchased and a an increase in plastics an other materials were being used. The need to keep our towns and cities clean became apparent.

The 1848 Public Health Act as the first time that a government decided that each household should have access to a rubbish receptacle which was emptied by state funded binmen. Dustbins were introduced by many councils. These rubbish bins were large metal containers and didn’t change on shape or design for decades.

In fact it wasn’t until the latter part of the twentieth century when concerns about land-fill space and the need to recycle some of our waste become apparent did the style and shape of dustbins change.

Along with the introduction of bottle banks, large plastic dustbins were introduced in many parts of the country as a cheaper method of producing bins compare to the heavy metal trash can. However, the need for recycling increased and goner too are these old style bins and most people in England and Wales were given wheelie bins. Wheelie bins not only make the job of collecting rubbish easier, different coloured bins have been introduced to encourage recycling. Many areas of the country now have two or tree wheelie bins. One is a conventional household rubbish bin the others are recycling bins for garden waste or recyclable materials.

Roll-Off Dumpster is Ideal for any Community Clean-up Project

Roll-Off Dumpster is Ideal for any Community Clean-up Project

Community clean-up projects can be very ideal especially during times of calamities. For example, during the time of Hurricane Katrina, a lot of construction materials were left idle after the event. People were so devastated that some of them just found themselves heading off to their nearest kin to start all over. The trauma of this calamity cannot be discounted. Thus, the government of New Orleans had to take care of the clean-up. This is one particular occasion that a roll-off dumpster was made a hero. Wall debris, woods from the destroyed houses, all kinds of furniture that got wet and damp by the storm as well as bathroom fixtures are needed to be collected.

A friend of mine contacted me to check if I can lend them some of my roll-off dumpster. Even though business was going too well at that time, I can’t help but say yes if only to help in the major community clean up that has to be done. I agreed with all my heart going out to the people of New Orleans. It’s the least that I can do to be grateful for sparing me and my loved ones from such devastation.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I also sponsored a community clean-up project that needed some of my roll-off dumpster. Because of its sheer size, it is the most suited container for the kind of community project that I sponsored. It is a weekend clean-up of a nearby community that was badly hit by a storm. Although the scale is not in the same magnitude as Hurricane Katrina, the people living in the said community still needed some help. In a certain degree, some of the houses were torn down by the strong wind. The major streets were covered with mud and fallen debris. We had to park around five roll-off dumpster at a nearby fire station just to facilitate the clean-up.

After the activity, it felt so good to see the smiles on people’s faces. There were those who recognized me helping out in the clean out so they extended their thank you smile. I felt so proud about myself, being able to contribute in my own little way.

So, the next time that you will have a community clean-up program, don’t hesitate to call the nearest dumpster rental company. They might give you a very good discount or even sponsor your event. After all, it is good P.R. for their company.

You Seriously Need Dumpster Rental Services If You Are

You Seriously Need Dumpster Rental Services If You Are

Imagine clean and orderly surroundings. No mess scattered around, no unnecessary and unsightly stuff lying around your backyard, or worse, front yard or garage. Wouldn’t you feel better knowing that there are no fire or pet hazards? We all know that garbage attracts rodents and pesky bugs. If you think that you qualify for any of these situations, then you must seriously need a dumpster rental service. But do you know that there are situations that best qualify for this particular service. Let me tell you what these are.

1. If you are doing a major renovation and replacing major house fixtures such as bathroom set, furniture and even old appliances, then you might really need a huge container to haul these items. It is not easy to haul them yourself using your personal vehicle. It is better to leave them to the care of the experts.

2. If you are doing a major garden or yard make-over, then you might consider hiring a dumpster rental service. Sometimes you want to improve on your garden appearance so you notice that some trees are no longer fit for the over-all look that you want to create. So, you will plan to cut some trees, remove some shrubs that will not blend with the landscape. This will require huge containers that will carry these items to the proper destination. Again, you don’t want to use your own vehicle as this might cause some dent or scratch. It will be more trouble to have your car re-painted than just rent a dumpster service.

3. If you happen to be planning to throw a big party for your seven year old son and there is just too much stuff to remove, like a major theme set-up or some props after the party, then this is another reason to hire a dumpster rental service. Obviously, these items can easily clog your attic and you don’t want to do that.

These entire three situations can be easily handled by hiring a professional. So I suggest that you search for the dumpster rental company nearest you and check the price. You may also want to ask around. For sure, good companies are often hired by your neighborhood.

Jamie Labelle has been in the dumpster rental business since he took over his dad’s more than a decade ago. Given his experience coupled with the reputation that his father has built, there is no doubt that he is the most qualified person for the messiest job! Making the Switch from Plastic to Natural Fibers

Making the Switch from Plastic to Natural Fibers

<!– @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } A:link { color: #0000ff } –>

So what’s the point of using a cotton or hemp shower curtain anyhow? The short answer is this: switching to cotton shower curtains or other natural fibers such as hemp can add little comfort to your personal life and have a tremendous positive impact on the environment. How you ask?

Take a standard 6′x6′ shower curtain made out of vinyl for example. Imagine if you will, thousands upon thousands of these thrown away each year! Being made of PVC, a petro-chemical material, they will take ages to decompose in the landfill. While doing so, they release PCB’s and other toxins that leach into the soil and our ground water. When sent to incinerators rather than the landfill, these same chemicals and more are released into the atmosphere!

Imagine the difference is all shower curtains were made from non polluting naturalfibers like cotton or hemp? Not only are they much better for the environment, but tightly woven cotton and hemp shower curtains also offer many superior features.

For one, there’s no initial out-gassing so you’ll escape that new vinyl smell which is more than just bothersome, especially to chemically sensitive persons. Natural fibers such as hemp and cotton shower curtains are also machine washable so they are easy to keep clean and fresh! And the cotton shower curtain material feels so great – no more trickey maneuvering in the shower to keep your skin away from that yucky vinyl!

Want to guess where plastic and vinyl curtains are made? Not in the United States. In fact, 99% of all shower curtains are made in China. Here in the United States, there are several small manufacturers of cotton and hemp shower curtains that are fighting off the tide of vinyl.

Cotton shower curtains are reminiscent of the durable canvas tents of yesteryear! The natural fiber wicks water down into the tub while the tight weave provides and efficient barrier to splashes and heaviest of sprays. Cotton shower curtains can come it a natural fiber color or with a non bleach white.

We consider hemp one of the premier plant fibers and a great alternative to generic linen shower curtains! Its nearly perfect for making into Hemp shower curtains. One of the strongest and most durable of all natural textile fibers, hemp shower curtains hold their shape, so it won’t stretch out or become distorted with use. Speaking of which, the more its used the softer it gets. Hemp shower curtain fibers absorb and channel water better than cotton. It’s porous nature also allows it to “breathe” so hemp shower curtains dry faster. Speaking of which, hemp is fast growing and produces more fiber per acre than any other crop.

When you are redoing your bathroom, consider moving to a United States manufactured hemp or cotton shower curtain. Purchasing natural fiber goods made in the United States supports alternative agriculture and provide long term value without the long terms environmental impacts.

A Recyclable Shower Curtain, Who is Kidding Who?

A Recyclable Shower Curtain, Who is Kidding Who?

<!– @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } A:link { so-language: zxx } –>

Regular vinyl shower curtains release chemical gases and odors from their ingredients and are manufactured with non-renewable and chemical resources. They are difficult to clean and end up in a landfill where they don’t decompose and could release dangerous substances into the ground. The alternative that we liked the best is a linen shower curtain made of 100% hemp found at buygreensavvy.com.

The EPA and Environmental Health and Justice have come clean, this PVC Shower Curtains are laden with 108 volatile organic compounds, poisonous chemicals that off-gas into the air and can persist for the first month while the curtain hangs in your home.  That just out of the pack, shower curtain smell can be toxic.

An off-gassing shower curtain with its 108 volatile organic compounds is detriment to your senses. A group of designers at a small firm called Grain, has attempted to create a PVC based plastic shower curtain alternative using a material called Tyvek. Yet swapping out the PVC plastic for the wonders of Tyvek may not be the right move. Tyvek isn’t truly recyclable and is basically a petroleum-based product.

Tyvek is not actually recycled, it is downcycled, into a variety of products. But no sheet of Tyvek will ever be a new sheet of Tyvek, and recycling is a pain and a hassle for consumers, who would bear the cost of shipping back to the company. In today’s day and age, why are we still resorting to vinyl shower curtains?

Other safe and natural shower curtain choices are: organic cotton, hemp, bamboo or linen.  Extra perks for hemp shower curtain, hemp’s anti-microbial, doesn’t need a liner, and it’s really durable so it’ll last. Even plain old conventionally grown cotton shower curtains are a better choice than vinyl. At least you can wash any these natural fabrics and keep reusing them for as long as you like. Whereas non-washable, mildewed vinyl needs replacing every year or two and just winds up in a landfill for a very long time.

This serves a dual purpose, as you can also toss out expired food products as you replace then in the refrigerator.

Blenders and food processors are usually designed to be easy to clean, so cleaning them is quite straightforward. Keeping Your Porta-Potties Clean

Keeping Your Porta-Potties Clean

When renting a porta a potty for any special occasion such as a sporting event, there are many factors that many people do not take into consideration. For example, with a large group of people, simply keeping the toilet clean can become quite a hassle. In addition to keeping the toilet clean there are several other responsibilities that you will be held accountable for. A few of these responsibilities will be replenishing toilet paper, replenishing paper towels, keeping the floors cleaned, cleaning trash, fixing problems such as clogs, and much more. As the number of people using the porta toilet increases, the harder it will be for you to properly maintain the area.

In order to properly maintain your portable toilet rental, the best option is hiring a portable toilet attendant. By hiring one of these attendants you can rest assured that your portable toilet will remain in top shape. One thing that this crew will handle for you is all of the cleaning. They will keep the toilets spotless, the floors cleaned, the toilet paper and paper towels replenished, and clean up all of the trash. Not only will the attendant crew handle all of the cleaning, but they will also be able to handle the maintenance work as well. For example, if a pipe is clogged, rather than you having to repair it the crew will handle it for you.

While hiring a portable toilet attendant will greatly reduce number of tasks you would have to complete to properly maintain the rental, but they also allow you to enjoy the event that you are hosting. By having an attendant, you will not have to constantly check the restrooms to ensure that everything has been taken care of. Because your time will not be taken up for toilet cleaning, floor scrubbing, and other tasks, you will be able to spend it with your guests. The cost of hiring a crew for this purpose can vary greatly. The main factors that influence the cost of the crew are the number of people that will be attending the event, the number of porta potty rentals, and the length of the event. Depending on the size of the event, the average cost of an attendant runs approximately 125 dollars. However, if having free time during your event is important that investing in one of these crews would give you the ability to do so. Also, if you have a large number of toilets rented, a crew would greatly reduce the amount of stress that you would otherwise feel. Overall, for important events and/or large events, hiring a portable toilet attendant would be greatly beneficial.

Eco Friendly Kitchen Ideas – Go Green

Eco Friendly Kitchen Ideas – Go Green

Kitchen is the center place for any family where everyone meets at the evening, have food together, children do their homework etc. Kitchen is most frequently used place in the house. As it is one of the busiest places in the house, this is where most of the energy (electricity) is consumed. According to one survey, energy, lighting, refrigeration and cooking are responsible for almost 50% of a home’s energy consumption. Do not forget to add dishwashers and washing machines to your power eater’s list. Using environmentally friendly cleaning products, recycling and using biodegradable bin liners are just a few ways families are going green in the kitchen. However one of the most important and significant changes many households are making is buying and using energy efficient kitchen appliances.

Here are some of the eco friendly kitchens ideas that can help you save on your energy bills and help make the environment little better:

Refrigerators

Refrigerators consume the most energy only after heating systems. If you are buying a new refrigerator, buy them with Energy Star label (which designates appliances that use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard models). Also consider buying a refrigerator that fits your requirements, do not buy huge one if you are only 3 members in the family.

Dishwashers and Washing Machines

Buy a water efficient washing machine that can save water and electricity. Use dishwasher and washing machines wisely, only use it when you have full load ready to go.

Waste Disposal machines

They help reduce the physical amount of food waste down to small pieces. You can use compost on your houseplants or garden where worms can compost down the food waste more efficiently.

Kitchen Trash Separators

Look for kitchen recycling bins that allow you to easily separate trash, in terms of paper, food, bottles, plastics, etc.

Energy Saving through Proper Lighting

Generally there are two or three light settings such as general, task lighting, and mood lighting. The kitchen should be designed in such a way that in day time sun light can be used at most of the places which saves energy. Low voltage systems for task and mood lighting are highly appreciated in modern kitchen designs. New age kitchen designers use the concept of skylight that brings natural light in the kitchen and makes the environment pleasant.

Other Energy Saving Kitchen Appliances

Use eco friendly kettles for your regular tea and coffee needs. Consider using new generation ovens that doesn’t require pre-heating.

By purchasing energy efficient appliances you’re not only doing your part to help protect the environment, you’re also helping your pocket and saving a substantial sum on energy costs too. Let’s go green and make this world better place to live!

The effect of having a spacious look in the external and internal sections of your homes can increase its value in a very profitable way. Maintain just essential furniture and avoid trash and clutter that have no practical uses inside your homes. Keep your walls clean and free from smudges or stains, and if quite necessary have it all painted over with neutral shades. Lighter shades can create a feeling of more space if painted on walls, and height if painted on ceilings.

* Improve the quality and quantity of your lighting fixtures

Outdated table lamps and lighting designs does not bring additional appeal for prospective buyers particularly if these are just ordinarily looking. Part of your home improvements MA project should include a change in your lighting fixtures with modern and energy saving designs. Greener lamps can consume less electricity yet they will give off a brighter light. The more light you have in your homes, the higher its value becomes. Track lights, wall lights and pot lights are some of the few designs that are popular to modern homebuyers and it would be profitable to take this into consideration.

* Use more wood finishes

One of the most elegant finishes to look at that would surely increase the value of the home is with the use of hardwood surfaces and trimmings. They are more appealing to the eyes and maintenance would be lesser compared to carpeted floorings.

* Renovate your kitchen and bathrooms

On top of renovating the exterior and interior portions of your house, it would also pay off to make some kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling as part of your project. Not only would it increase the home’s value, but the appealing appearances and the new look could get the attention of your prospective buyers.

A home is a wise investment to have and it would be quite natural for people who want to sell and profit from this investment to be able to get the maximum returns. The most effective way to achieve this is to undergo a home improvements MA project that will not only change the way the home would look, but would also change how much the home is worth.

Top 10 Holiday Plumbing Tips

Top 10 Holiday Plumbing Tips

Christmas time is known to be one of the busiest times of the year for plumbers and drain cleaning professionals.  Sewage systems can become overrun with additional house guests, causing inconvenient backups.  While preparing and cleaning up holiday meals, homeowners can also clog up their sinks, garbage disposals and dishwashers.  Below are 10 steps to help you avoid calling a plumber this holiday season.

Top 10 Holiday Plumbing Tips
Do not under any circumstance dump grease directly down your drain. Grease solidifies when it cools, and will solidify on the inside of your plumbing.
Always collect excess grease in spare containers.  Wait for it to solidify and then dispose of it.
Never force large amounts of food down the garbage disposal at once.  Give the unit plenty of time to grind the food before adding more.
Don’t use your garbage disposal as a trash can.  Turkey bones splinter (that’s why you can’t feed them to your dog), and fibrous vegetable skins can wind around the blade, causing the disposal to come to a screeching halt.
Always turn on the water before starting the garbage disposal, and keep it running for a minute after turning off the disposal to move the waste through the pipes.
Christmas Dinner leftovers can do a number on your sink.  Make sure all food scraps are scraped off plates before rinsing.  Letting food remnants slide down your drain will cause backups in your kitchen pipes.
Also, make sure dishes are scraped clean before placing them in the dishwasher.  Food scraps can collect in the dishwasher and prevent proper drainage.
Keep the area around your sink and disposal clear.  Utensils and other kitchen tools can slip into your garbage disposal, bringing it to a screeching stop.
Avoid leaving paper towels in bathrooms.  If toilet paper supplies run empty, guests may reach for paper towels instead; which can stop up toilets quickly.
And finally, don’t offer to host Christmas Dinner if your sewage system tends to run slow.  The sheer volume of additional guests can strain your system, and cause bathroom backups.  There’s no quicker way to ruin a Christmas Dinner than having a main line backup in your home.

Party Planning – 6 Steps to Designing a Successful and Comfortable Party in your Home

Party Planning – 6 Steps to Designing a Successful and Comfortable Party in your Home

Make sure you follow the below 6 steps before you throw your next party at your home in order to make the party comfortable for YOU and YOUR GUESTS. These steps are golden rules that will seem subtle but which make a HUGE impact, plus the last step always impresses guests.

1. Music

Just like color to a room affects people’s mood, so does music. I recommend a low beat music in the beginning of your party to give time (mood) for formal introduction, after the majority of your guests have arrived, then it would be more comfortable to increase the beat of your music (rock on!). A subtle way to inform your guests that it will soon be time to leave is to lower the sounds & beat of your music selection – hint! Hint! HINT!

2. Food Location

Location! Location! Location! Just think of your hors d’oeuvres as real estate property. The best location is the best talked about. Position your cocktails in at least a 4 point spread within a room, this will prevent overcrowding within the food area. Even if you are planning a dinner party – guests will expect cocktails before the main entrée so provide enough “sites” to keep them mingling in more than one are.

3. Garbage Location

You do NOT want to have your guests overcrowding your kitchen trash bin; therefore, provide visible locations where they can dispose of items. Try placing the trash bins near a plant so you can camouflage the trash and have a visual guide to its location.

4. Excuse me – what is in THAT?

Avoid having to constantly repeat the name and ingredients of an appetizer, or sending someone to the emergency room with an allergic reaction to your delicious (yum yum) appetizer, type the name & ingredients of each dish. This will also help guests interact with each other. Try using a fancy or Fun font to accentuate your party theme. It’s great to know what the dish (hor derve/ cocktail) is called and what is in it, plus, it’s a peace of mind for those guests that may be allergic to certain ingredients (um, unless you really don’t like them – haha!)

5. Embrace Plastic

Did you know that plastic forks & spoon are now sold in silver? – to replicate the look of silverware. Use the silver forks & spoons on your next party – this table decorating tip is great for the “look” and “practicality” (NO utensils to wash – YEAH!).

6. After Party

Have decorative doggie bags ready for the end of the party. Unless your guests gobbled every dish you made (or “purchased” – that’s my way of throwing a party), you will have food left over; so give them to your guests with a bag that says “thank you for coming” or your name and the date of the event. I recommend purchasing Avery mailing labels (all office supplies have these) and print whatever your heart desires on the labels than slap them on a small paper bag – WaaaaLa – instinct “custom” yummy left over bags.

Follow the above steps and you will most definitely have guests sending you Thank You notes for the fun time they had at your party. So next time your are thinking of throwing a party .. birthday party … dinner party … it’s Saturday party … I just resigned from my J.O.B. party … implement the above six steps and HAVE FUN!

Remember, live BEAUTIFUL and COMFORTABLE!

5 Tips For A Sweeter Shower

5 Tips For A Sweeter Shower

How messy is the shower in your apartment? Do you have haircare product bottles, soap, puffs, shaving cream, razors and who knows what else lining the base of your tub?

You name it…we’ve seen it. And if you have found yourself in the situation, we are here to help. The shower/bathtub is often over looked as a part of the apartment that needs a little decorators touch or some storage help.

These 5 tips will help you, your roommates, and whoever else may find themselves getting clean in your apartment enjoy a sweeter shower.

1) Corner Caddy – A corner caddy is an important part of any shower.  They can be found in a variety of prices from cheap to expensive, but are extremely useful. Having several shelves discretely tucked away in the corner helps to store all of the shower junk that lines the base of the tub.

2) Shower Spray – There are a ton of options at the store for shower cleaning products and sprays, so you have no excuse not to have one. So many apartment residents let their showers get mildewy and gross…then complain about it when they have to scrub for hours to get it clean. Plus, doesn’t it kind of defeat the purpose of getting clean if you are doing it in a dirty place. Avoid all of this and get a daily spray that you mist your shower with when you get out and let it do all the cleaning work. You may have to sponge off a little soap scum here and there, but it will be far better than if you left it alone.

3) Trash the Trash – While we are on the subject of keeping things clean, be sure and actually throw out your empty shampoo bottles, old razors, and other bits of trash that seem to just linger around the tub for years. If you aren’t going to use it…dump it. Clutter is your worst enemy in every room of an apartment…even the bath.

4) Splurge On Nice Things – Spend a little money to make your bathing experience better. Don’t just go with the cheap, plastic, see-through shower curtain. Instead get one in the color you really like..and then get another that matches and goes on the outside of the shower…the whole inner/outer curtain thing looks really nice. Look into adding a nice shower head with multiple settings, but only if the community manager approves you to do so. Plush towels will prove over time to be soooo much better than their cheap counter-parts and don’t just go for the cheap soap. Get stuff that smells great or leaves your skin/hair feeling great. If you don’t feel great in your apartment….no one will!

5) Don’t Slip – Many embarrassing accidents happen in the shower every year. A slippery shower floor can cause all kinds of problems.  Consider getting a rubber non-slip shower mat that matches your shower curtains to help your feet maintain grip and skip on the slips.

Happy Showering!
