Be sure that your trash cans are high enough that your puppy won’t get into them. Also make sure that these can’t be knocked over. There are all sorts of products and chemicals in the trash that will hurt your puppy and can cause harm.
Have no hanging cords in the house. These might be from the phone or the blinds. The pet can run into these and end up getting choked on them. This happens each year to many dogs in the home causing injury and death.
Keep your human food off the ground. You have to be very careful about this as a puppy will eat anything that smells good. Some of these foods will make your puppy very sick.

Foreclosure Trash Outs Make the News
As foreclosures continue to mount and unemployment continues to increase, it?s only natural that the media would begin to focus on the property preservation business opportunity. It?s one of the few sectors where business is booming, so more and more people are interested in finding out more about it.
For example, in an article from September 20th, ?The News and Record of Greensboro? newspaper zeroed in on several North Carolina foreclosure trash out businesses, including Junk King, run by Matt and Drew Hambright, and Junkyard Dogz, operated by Thad Loftin.
In 2005, when Loftin began his business, he went to ask a local bank about foreclosed homes in the area that might need cleaning out. He was told there was usually only about one foreclosure per year. 2009 is a totally different story ? with 343 foreclosures in one month alone in his area. The Hambright brothers have a similar story. They began by cleaning the junk from new construction sites ? now, at least a third of their business is foreclosure trash outs. The other property preservation article that will be mentioned here can be found in a very unlikely place ? Salon.com, a liberal political website that?s been around almost as long as the World Wide Web itself.
Usually on Salon, you mostly find articles boosting Obama and bashing the right wing ? but they?re currently running a series entitled ?Pinched,? about how people are making ends meet during the recession. In this case, author Cindy Reid has written about her experiences performing foreclosure trash outs in a piece entitled, ?What?s Left Behind.?
Seems her boyfriend runs a property preservation company in South Carolina ? and Cindy, out of work, decided to start working alongside him. She relates how the toll of the increasing workload as the foreclosure rate started to mushroom began to impact their relationship.
?At the beginning, Joe and I were oh-so-polite to each other on the job. He gave me the easiest tasks, and I was so eager to please that I would knock myself out making sure the bathroom was the cleanest bathroom in America?But the good manners wore away as the housing market meltdown tripled our workload. By summer we were openly yelling at each other.?
Funny thing though. Cindy tried to change careers ? then found she liked her old one too much!
?At one point I left the repo field and took a “good” professional job. But I missed the work. I missed pulling up to a house and wondering what was inside. I missed the physical labor. I missed the camaraderie of the crew and the uncontrollable laughter that rises when you are sweat-soaked and exhausted and the funniest thing you have ever seen is someone spilling used motor oil all over their clothes. Even if the person is you.?
If there?s anything that the tale of two Carolinas tells us, it?s that property preservation is booming all across the country ? and it?s worth exploring as an alternate career in these bad economic times.

Kitchen
Although there are other space saving for the kitchen to brag about, one of the top space saving items you could get for your kitchen is an under-the-cabinet trash can. Why? Bedroom
One of my favorite picks for the bedroom is the lingerie chest. Why? Well, because although it’s built to accommodate lingerie… it can also accommodate other garments that you need to stow away. It’s great for small bedrooms when you don’t have much space to go on and you find that a dresser would be too large. Lingerie chests are narrow and tall, which makes it easy to place them just about anywhere in your bedroom. And they are even convenient if you find you don’t have enough room store one in your bedroom but can make room for one in your closet.
Living Room
Although I consider small coffee tables a top choice, what’s great for each living room is also an individual experience. Occasionally one home owner may find that a larger coffee table looks best while another finds the opposite to be true. So, if a small one would serve you well… one of my favorite choices is the small scale version of your basic coffee table.
Small scales version typically range around these sizes: square and round coffee tables will generally range around 30″ W x 30″ L or in diameter. Anything larger than that may not be considered small. Rectangular and oval coffee tables will typically range around 30-40″ L and 18-21″ W.
Bathroom
The bathroom is a lot like the kitchen… items can run amuck. So, one of my favorite bathroom space savers and organizers are wall-mounted cabinets. Not only do they help you keep your items from wandering all over the place and getting in the way, but they also free up floor space so it’s almost like not having anything there at all. And an additional benefit is that often you can place something on top, like a beautiful silk flower, to aid to the decor and charm of your small bathroom.

1. Fill in gaps. Use plastic bags to fill in gaps around pipes, ducts and other wall or floor openings rather than filling the holes with spray foam or caulk.
2. Protect fruit. Tie plastic bags over nearly ripe fruit growing on a tree to keep out bugs and to protect them from a frost.
3. Apply waxes and creams. Plastic bags can be used like a mitt to wipe on furniture wax or polish. After that, use a soft cloth to buff to a shiny finish.
4. Transport plants. When you divide those hostas or peonies, use bags to carry the plants and keep the soil in place.
5. Seal a paint can. When you are done painting, place a plastic bag over the lid of the paint can before putting it back on the can. This keeps any unwanted particles that have attached to the underside of the lid out of the paint itself.
6. Keep you jeans clean. Cut holes in the bottom of two plastic bags and pull them over the legs of your pants like knee pads when you are gardening.
7. Make sure glue won’t stick to the wrong thing. When you use clamps on your latest woodworking project, slip a plastic bag between the clamp and the wood. Once the glue has dried on your project, you can slip the clamps off more easily.
8. Same time after a storm. If you suspect it is going to snow or sleet overnight, wrap a plastic bag around you side view mirrors on your car so they are free of ice when you need to get going in the morning.
9. Keep your dog or cat comfy. Take an old pillowcase and stuff it with some plastic bags. Sew up the end that is open and your pet will have a comfy bed to lie on when resting.
10. Organize hardware. Cut a plastic bag to fit neatly in your tool belt. This will keep nails and other small pieces from slipping deep into the seams.

Sometimes Women “Want” What They “Need” – Cute Tote Bags?
The other day I noticed something very interesting.
While waiting outside an office building at 4:30pm, I watched while women came out and headed to their cars to go home. Without exception, each and every woman carried a tote bag.
Why is this interesting to me?
Some of you are shaking your heads right now saying “so what, who cares?”. As the owner of an online gift shop, the light went on in my how-to-create-more-content brain. I realized this was such a great gift that women really want and need.
That would be cute tote bags! Yes! Then I thought . . . this has got to be the perfect gift!
It’s not as difficult as picking out a purse. This is different. I can’t really explain, you’ll have to trust me on that. It took me quite awhile to graduate from the grocery plastic bags to a cloth tote. Since then, I’ll never go back. Those plastic grocery bags serve only as bathroom trash liners now.
What the heck is in them?
Everything. Lunch and snacks, drinks, clothes to change into after work, camera, stuff to show or give to co-workers, extra pair of shoes, make-up, curling irons, books and magazines, you name it; it’s in there! Cute tote bags hold a lot.
Okay, I get it. What are your choices?
Okay, this is where it really gets exciting.
There’s a cute tote bag out there for every womans tastes. For those who walk a little on the “wild side”, there are animal prints. For little miss “climbing up the corporate latter” type woman, there’s leather totes. To mark a special occasion, such as Mothers Day, there are personalized tote bags with their name, initials and even pictures you have have embossed right on them. Tfor here are beach totes, cooler totes (that’s what I carry) and designer totes. Some totes have sayings on them and are super-great for creative teacher gifts too!
Having said all that, cute tote bags are definity worth considering when shopping for a gift. You don’t have to worry about sizing, one size fits all!

Pet-Proof Now…Avoid Problems later
Puppies have a tremendous amount of energy and natural curiosity, and they love to explore the world around them. This is part of what makes them so much fun, but it can also lead them into harmful situations. Before you bring your new puppy home, make sure you survey your home for potential dangers. In many ways, making your home safe for a puppy is similar to making your home safe for a toddler. The following tips are designed to help you keep your puppy safe. Many of the following warnings apply for adult dogs as well:
Indoor Hazards
* Know which plants are toxic and place them out of reach, or replace them with nontoxic plants. Toxic plants commonly found indoors include dieffenbachia, azalea, Calla lily, and philodendron.
* Keep all medications, including any dog supplements, in a safe area the puppy cannot access. Do not leave vitamins or other pills out on the kitchen counter or table. A determined chewer can make short work of a plastic container. Puppies are surprisingly quick at pulling things off of end tables or other low surfaces.
* Put bathroom trash cans up high where your dog cannot get into them. Sanitary supplies and used razors are only two of the hazards here.
* Full sinks, bathtubs, or toilets with open lids can be a drowning hazard. Avoid automatic toilet bowl cleaners if you cannot keep your puppy from drinking out of the toilet.
* Keep cleaning supplies in high cupboards or use childproof latches to secure lower cupboards. Remove the puppy from the area when you are using liquid or spray cleaners. They can get into the eyes of a curious puppy, and the vapors can be harmful to lungs and eyes.
* Be careful of your puppy around furniture. A rocking chair can harm a puppy’s tail or leg, and a curious puppy may crawl under an open recliner or sofa bed.
* Electrical cords are a big danger to puppies, who often chew on them while playing. This can cause burns in the mouth, electrical shock, or death by electrocution. Tie up loose electrical cords and keep them out of sight. Run cords through purchased spiral cable wrap, cord concealers, or even PVC pipe to keep them safe from your puppy.
* Any type of fire can be dangerous. Screen off fireplaces and wood stoves. Never leave your puppy unattended in a room with an open flame or space heater.
* Cords for drapery and blinds can cause strangulation. Either tie up the excess cords, or cut the loop in the cord.
* Swallowed clothing may cause a dangerous intestinal blockage. Keep socks, nylons, underwear, and other clothing put away. Keep laundry baskets off the floor.
* Keep small objects (coins, jewelry, needles and thread, straight pins, yarn, dental floss, rubber bands, paper clips, toys, etc.) out of your puppy’s reach. Jewelry and coins are easily swallowed and can contain metals that are toxic. Keep costly items and those of sentimental value put away until your puppy is older and less likely to chew. Provide an assortment of chew toys that are appropriate for your puppy’s chewing instinct.
* Keep fishing line, hooks, and lures stored out of reach.
* Be careful about closing doors as you walk through – your puppy may be right behind you and get caught.
* Keep doors and windows closed. Keep screens on windows and sliding glass doors securely fastened and in good repair, to keep your puppy from falling through or escaping.
* Close off stairwells with a pet gate.
* Many dogs will eat cat feces from the litter box if given the chance. In addition to being a disgusting (at least to us!) habit, this can be a dangerous health hazard. Cat litter can cause an intestinal obstruction, and in addition, any intestinal worms the cat has may be passed on to the dog. One solution may be to put the litter box behind a pet gate, either in a separate room or in a closet with the gate across the doorway. The gate can be raised up from the floor to allow the cat to go under it, unless the dog is able to go under it also. If the cat cannot jump over the gate easily, a stepstool beside the gate can help.
* Many human foods can cause problems for pets. Chocolate, onions, alcohol, and foods high in fat, sugar, or salt can be very harmful. Chocolate, coffee, and tea all contain dangerous components called “xanthines,” which cause nervous system or urinary system damage and heart muscle stimulation. Problems from ingestion of chocolate range from diarrhea to seizures and death. All chocolate, fudge, and other candy should be placed out of your dog’s reach. Grapes and raisins contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys.
* Tobacco products, including nicotine gum and patches, contain substances that can be toxic or fatal to dogs.
* Chicken bones, plastic food wrap, coffee grounds, meat trimmings, the string from a roast – all pose a potential hazard. Scraps from ham or other foods high in fat can cause vomiting and diarrhea, or pancreatitis. To be safe, put food away immediately, dog-proof your garbage, and do not feed table scraps to your dog. Uncooked meat, fish, and poultry can contain disease-causing bacteria, such as E. coli, and parasites, such as Toxoplasma gondii. These uncooked foods should not be given to your dog. For your own health, as well as your pet’s, wash utensils that have been in contact with raw meat, and cook meat thoroughly.
Outdoor Hazards
* Do not leave your puppy outside unsupervised. To prevent your puppy from wandering, you will need to either build an outdoor kennel or provide secure fencing that your puppy cannot jump over or dig under.
* Provide your puppy a separate area of your yard to use as his bathroom area. Use fencing, or other means, to keep him out of areas where children may play, especially sand boxes.
* Some outdoor plants and trees can be toxic to dogs. Common ones include potato (all green parts), morning glory, foxglove, lily of the valley, and oak (buds and acorns). Many bulb plants, such as daffodils, are also poisonous. Cocoa bean mulch can be toxic to dogs. Some dogs chew and swallow landscaping stone, which can cause dangerous intestinal blockage.
* Make sure all gasoline, oil, paint, lawn fertilizers, insecticides, and auto supplies are placed into secure containers, out of reach. Be especially careful with antifreeze and rat poison, both of which taste good to dogs and both of which can be deadly if ingested.
* Pools, ponds, and hot tubs should be covered or fenced off. Drainpipes can also pose problems.
* Fire rings, barbecues, and other heat or fire sources pose the potential of causing burns.
* Keep all food and other garbage in securely closed containers. Used coffee grounds can contain harmful amounts of caffeine, and decomposing food may contain toxic molds. Keep compost in a secure bin.
* Walk around your property and look for other areas or items that could be a hazard to your puppy, such as broken glass, exposed nails, or other sharp objects. Plan how you will restrict your puppy’s access to these areas.
Bringing home a new puppy is a time of fun and excitement. Following these tips and investing in a few key pet supplies will help you keep your new friend safe, so that the two of you can enjoy each other’s company for years to come.

We’re Out of Toilet Paper….Again

Living with so many people in one house will almost always guarantee a few things, like running out of juice or bottled water, constantly cleaning up after children and dogs, and trying to come up with new and exciting meal ideas that everyone will enjoy.
The most frustrating thing however is running out of toilet paper before the next scheduled shopping trip, especially when you’re the one in the bathroom and in desperate need of the paper. That is when the call goes out to anyone who is home for some paper napkins from the dining room as a substitute. You hope that someone can hear you or you’re reduced to drip dry or a quick shower in lieu of a bidet. Sometimes I’ll check the garbage can for scraps of toilet paper as there always seems to be an abundance of rolled up, unused paper in the bathroom trash. The question always remains…who should buy the paper when it runs out mid week? And more importantly, with so many people in the house, how do you delegate who is responsible for what?
Most times we really don’t think about who does what. Whatever needs tending to, gets taken care of by whom ever notices first. There will be days when I go shopping for mid week necessities, and other times when my sister in law will do that. Sometimes we’ll both forget.
The question was posed by people who are not in this situation. People who do fight over who has to do what in their household. A few friends have mentioned that their partner or significant other never does the dishes, or the grocery shopping, or the laundry, the list goes on. My thought is, just do what needs to get done, but ask for help when you need it. Nobody should be overburdened with taking care of every single task by themselves.
Don’t expect the other person to just know that you want something taken care of. If I need my father’s clothes laundered while I’m at work, I’ll ask my sister in law to do it. Truth is if she sees the clothes in the laundry room, she’ll take it upon herself to do it anyway. Another example is pasta sauce. We eat pasta daily and we prefer homemade sauce. If I notice that we’ve run out, I’ll take some meat out the night before and ask if she can make it if she’s home and not scheduled to work. If she does have to work, then we figure out who will make it either in the morning or at night. No arguments, no fighting about who does what. It makes for a better living environment that way.
Nobody really wants to live in a house where they constantly need to take care of everyone, especially if other healthy adults are in the household. A friend recently complained to me that her husband refuses to buy toilet paper and will be happy to “hold it in” while she runs to the store to pick some up. Now toilet paper isn’t something that isn’t a necessity. We have become accustom to using toilet paper and there really is no substitute for it. My brother has on occasion used the “quicker picker upper”. Trying to flush this is like trying to flush a towel – it’s impossible. I’ve spent many days fishing that paper out of the toilet or trying to plunge it through the pipes. Maybe there’s an embarrassment that comes from purchasing this one particular item. Whatever the reason, don’t hold it in, pitch in and help buy the paper even if you’ve run out of it on a Wednesday. We all share the same household and we all want to live in a peaceful environment where we can use the bathroom in peace and without fear of the drip dry.
